I am a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California, and a Research Scientist at the Institute for Creative Technologies.
My research lies in the area of natural language dialogue systems, which converse and interact with human speakers in a natural language such as English. The central theme of my research is to enable dialogue systems to respond to the inevitable uncertainties of communication in a way that is more flexible, more robust, and more human-like.
I have been particularly interested in incremental language processing, improving how systems respond to uncertainty, and scaling up systems into larger conversational domains.
I am a member of the ICT Natural Language Dialogue Group.
I am looking for PhD students. If you’re interested in working with me or with the ICT dialogue group, please send me an email!
