Tutorial Overview
This is an introductory tutorial on Decision Theory. It is by no means complete - to cover Decision Theory in its entirety would be a Herculean effort I'm frankly not ready to undertake. As I encounter "lulls" in my research, I will attempt to continue adding material to this tutorial. But be forewarned, this tutorial will be heavily biased towards my research interests .
Why Write a Tutorial?
I've written an introductory tutorial in Decision Theory. Let me preempt your question of "Why?" by saying that my reasons are threefold:
- Introduce people to Decision Theory: I think Decision Theory is not only an immensely interesting subject but also has profound implications on society. Not only is it interesting to learn in its own right, but I think people in general could benefit from a little more decision-theoretic rigor in their lives.
- A little shameless self-promotion: In addition to my publications and the attendance of conferences in my field, I figure getting people in my research community to take note of the work I've been doing is a good thing.
- Teaching = Learning: I firmly believe that one of the best ways to learn is to teach. So by presenting a tutorial and introduction on Decision Theory I can keep the material fresh in my mind as well.
