Installing and Removing dictionariesInstalling additional dictionariesBy default the cocoAspell package comes only with the English dictionary that contains American, British, and Canadian variations. To spell check a document in another language you may have to download, compile, and install the corresponding spelling dictionary. Generally Aspell dictionaries are distributed in their source form. You may find more details about that at the Aspell main site. Before cocoAspell can use such a dictionary it has to be compiled. I am providing most of the dictionaries already compiled for Mac OS X. I strongly encourage you to download and install the compiled dictionaries. You may however prefer to compile the dictionary yourself. If some dictionary is only available in its source form cocoAspell can compile it for you. For this you need to have Apple Developer Tools (specifically you need make) installed. Please read how to download, compile, and install a dictionary. Removing a dictionaryBefore removing a dictionary from your system make sure it is disabled by unchecking the Enable button in the Spelling preference pane. Alternatively, you may trash the aspell.service file from you Services folder. You will have to re-enable the rest of the dictionaries in the Spelling preference pane. Note that you have to remove aspell.service and not the cocoAspell.service file. If the dictionary was enabled before you removed it, you will need to logout and login back into the system. |
