NeATs is an automatic multi-document summarization tool created by Chin-Yew Lin at ISI. I was working with Dr. Lin on creating iNeATs - an interactive multi-document summarization that allows a user to take control over the summarization process, define the size, homogeneity, and focus of the summary. The NeATs engine is also used to highlight the most important parts of the original documents. We plan to explore how the summarization can serve as a browsing portal for the document set. One major domain for the summarization is the news story collections. We integrate the textual summary with time-based and map-based visualizations. We arrange the news stories on the timeline and on the world map based on the events they describe.
