Parser and Parsing Tools from Ergo Linguistic Technologies:
In
this demo Philip A. Bralich, Ph.D. co-inventor of a patented technology
for NLP and co-founder of Ergo Linguistic Technologies will present a demonstration
of the basic parser and the tools that have been developed from it.
The demonstration will be divided into two sections: basic parsing and
practical applications. The basic parsing section will provide two
separate demonstrations of a few minutes each. The first will be
a demonstration of a parser which provides analyses in standard English
terms that could be understood by marketers and developers as well as by
linguists and the second will be a parser which provides analyses in terms
that are more familiar to linguists and other NLP professionals.
This second demonstration within the basic parsing section will focus on
parsing based on guidelines outlined in the PennTreebank II style book
available at the University of Pennsylvania, Linguistic Data Consortium..
The main focus here will be on the labelled brackets and tree diagrams
that are generated by the Ergo parser. In the practical application
section of this demo there will be three programs demonstrated: a logic
and syllogistic reasoning program, a navigation and control device called
ãMemoMasterä and an interactive device for chatting with interactive 3-D
animations called ãChatterBoxä This last demonstration will involve the
opportunity to engage in rudimentary chats with a working lip-synching
animation..
Part of
the discussion will involve comments concerning the standards that are
being met by the software that is being presented as well as the theory,
parsing algorithms, and patent that the parser and its output are based
on.
The demos
and parsers are all based on tools developed from a recently patented development
in parsing that makes it possible to implement our theory of syntax in
a programming language. The theory of syntax that is being used will
be referenced for those who are interested.
